There’s also the small matter of <b>Paris+ par Art Basel</b> taking place across the Channel, too, which is building quite the momentum ahead of its second edition. Seemingly, as we discuss below, Paris+ is becoming a key fair for galleries to debut their newest and trendiest artists on their rosters. But I won’t bore you with any France vs. Britain art market chat for the minute. All I can think about right now is how tired I’ll be on the Eurostar.<br><br>In this edition of the newsletter, we’re leaning into the European art fair spirit by taking a look at trending ultra-contemporary French and U.K. artists on Artsy. We also round up the key art world news; plus, our curatorial lead <b>Jordan Huelskamp</b> shares the art she’s obsessed with this month. A striking figurative painter, Longe draws on Old Master traditions and reworks them to center Black figures.<br><br>The 29-year-old artist—who was featured in <b>The Artsy Vanguard 2022</b>—is having a breakout 2023. She was handpicked by King Charles to paint a portrait of Jesse Stephens MBE for an exhibition on the Windrush Generation at Edinburgh’s Royal Palace; a trio of her works reached impressive auction results in June; and she had a sold-out solo booth at <b>Frieze Seoul</b> last month with <a href="#" style="text-decoration:underline; color:#000; font-size:16px"><b>Timothy Taylor</b></a>. The London gallery, which represents her, also had an acclaimed solo exhibition of her work earlier this year. In addition to a number of impressive results for emerging artists, the sales also featured some eye-catching unsold lots, too.<br><br>As a result, it’s hard to view these sales as a barometer of much...that will have to wait until the November sales, which are sure to pack more of a blockbuster element. Longevial also participated in an artist residency at the <b>Riad Jardin Secret</b> in Marrakech this year, and boasts a hefty 340,000 followers on Instagram.<br><br>Brodskis, meanwhile, is represented by <a href="#" style="text-decoration:underline; color:#000; font-size:16px"><b>Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery</b></a> and had work featured in its booth at <b>The Armory Show</b> in New York last month. I go to a lot of gallery and museum shows, and pay attention to Instagram and, of course, Artsy. I also go to fairs, but I’ve found you get a much better sense of the artist in a proper show where you can see more of the work together. I also talk to other artists, galleries, collectors, and people whose tastes I like. It’s really a pretty organic process but always comes down to really paying attention and being open to looking closer at things, especially if I don’t like it right away.
